Yarn from cutting wasted fabric

Kongkiat has invented new way to blend recycle fabric into the yarn. The recycle fabric that we use can come from cutting waste from the garment factory, defected garment, post consumer garment. Kongkiat will sort and regenerate those fabrics back into fiber that is ready to be spun.

Reuse the un-used material

We can regenerate T-shirt,shirt,shorts,towel,jeans,socks,sweater, glove, un-used fabric or dead stock fabric. Then we put those un-used material into our fabric recycle process to get regenerated fiber that is ready to blend with cotton, organic cotton, polyester or other synthetic fibers. Kongkiat can put 10-50% of the recycle fiber into the yarn and keep the quality of the yarn as good as the normal yarn.

Collaboration with brands and garment manufacturer in closed loop system

Most of our recycling project starts with Brand that value recycling as their priority. The brand will order garment manufacturers to send cutting waste fabric from their production to Kongkiat directly. This gives transparency in every process since the brand can know how much quantity they help the world by using recycled material and they can track the progress of the recycling work. Working in a closed loop system will ensure that Kongkiat will use recycled materials that makes an impact on the world. Then after Kongkiat regenerates the fabric back into fiber and make a yarn out of that fiber. The yarn will be used to produce fabric and garments for that brand. This will help the brand to have zero waste from the production process.

For years, we have been working with lots of brands and retailers from Japan, Europe, USA to make recycled yarn and products. Kongkiat is also certified in GRS (Global Recycle System) which will help all the parties in the supply chain to track to the origin of the recycled material

Example of project that we've done

Kongkiat has worked with so many brands and garment manufacturers. In this example project, we worked with a Japanese brand and sock maker. They sent us the B-grade sock. Kongkiat converted all those socks into fiber then we made yarns that use 20% of recycled material. Finally, Kongkiat sold the yarn back to that sock maker to make new socks with recycled material. The brand can declare that this project is a real closed loop of recycling material which helps reduce waste from the supply chain.

B grade socks

These are socks that cannot be used and waiting to be destroyed according to brand policy.

Recycle fiber

Kongkiat converted those socks into fiber that is ready to be spun in our spinning mill.

Yarn with 20% recycle material

We blend 80%organic cotton with 20% recycle fiber from sock. We make yarn count NE30/1 with good quality.

Making new socks!!

Customer used our yarn to make socks and then sell them back to the brand.

This recycle a is truly eco-friendly

Regenerated fiber is a very eco-friendly product since we don’t have to throw those cutting waste fabric or old garments into the landfill. The process of making regenerated fiber is also eco-friendly with very low energy and water consumption. So there is rarely any pollution. On the other hand, using regenerated fiber will help save water from the dyeing process. Since those cutting waste fabrics come in colors, we will get color fibers from the regenerated process without using any dyeing method.

When we blend regenerated fiber with other fiber, we will get a mélange yarn that looks really nice. For example, if we use black cutting waste fabric, we will get black fiber. Then we blend regenerated black fiber with organic cotton. We will get a grey top-dyed or grey mélange yarn.

Our recycle process is very simple

Sourcing – the recycle fabric can come from garment factory, donated garment, dead stock fabric or B-grade garment. Kongkiat can import the waste fabric from anywhere in the world depending on the volume and condition of the agreement.

Sorting – We recommend the supplier to sort fabric by color and composition before sending to Kongkiat. So that we can make a reliable fiber and yarn.

Cutting – All fabrics will be cut into 5-10 cm pieces before sending to the carding process.

Carding – This process will shred the fabric into fine fiber with the control of fiber length and size.

Blending – After we get the recycle fiber, we will start blending it with other types of fiber such as cotton, polyester. The ratio of the blend will effect the composition and color of the final product.

Spinning – At Kongkiat, we can spin yarn by Open end system and Ring spun system. Depending of the use of fabric and yarn count and final quality that customer wants.

Recycle Yarn specification

The quality of our recycle yarn is as good as our normal yarn. Kongkiat aims to control the quality and specification of our yarn. The color and composition will be the result of the recycled fiber. The percentage of the recycled depends on the size of the yarn (yarn count). The more you use the recycled fiber, the more difficult to spin the yarn. So we better limit the percentage of the recycled fiber follow the table below.

NE10 >> Maximum recycled fiber = 50%

NE20 >> Maximum recycled fiber = 40%

NE30 >> Maximum recycled fiber = 30%

NE40 >> Maximum recycled fiber = 20%

Sample fabrics that make from recycle yarn

Fabric from 20% Recycle cotton fabric

We blend 80%cotton + 20%Recycle from waste cut fabric.

Fabric from 30% Recycle material

We use 70% organic cotton blending with 30% recycle from socks.

Fabric from 20% mixed color recycle fabric

This fabric make from mixed color fabric. We use 20% of the recycle fiber blending with 80% Modal.

Fabric from 15% black recycle fabric

We use 85%Recycle Polyester blending with 15% black recycle fabric. The grey melange color comes from recycle part.
